Natural Horsemanship with Stacey Riggs

From intro (including ground work) to advanced, including specific problems & issues. Let this popular clinician teach you how to help you & your horse become calm confident partners!

Stacey has been training and teaching for over 18 years. Stacey’s goal is always to teach and empower her students to confidently and respectfully communicate with their horse.

One of Stacey’s greatest characteristics is her compassion for riders who have experienced traumatic events with their horses. Nothing is more satisfying or rewarding to Stacey than to help them regain their confidence. Her relaxed style of teaching puts both the horse and rider at ease. In her clinics and lessons, Stacey gives her students a figurative tool belt of skills which replaces reaction with action and fear with confidence. Stacey is a student of the art of horsemanship; she continually educates herself on new and effective methods of training. One of Stacey’s adventures was training mustangs for the Mustang Challenges. Her journey with the mustangs tested, refined and advanced her skills and methods, but more importantly it helped her better understand the special relationship between horse and human. Stacey has dedicated herself to honing her horsemanship skills and to passing this knowledge onto others.

Cowboy Dressage with Christine Simpson

Cowboy Dressage emphasizes soft feel & kindness to the horse over accuracy & speed. There is also a major focus on supporting one another & participating in a positive experience for all. Let Christine Simpson help you improve your CD skill set or introduce you to this up and coming discipline.

Video: Inside Cowboy Dressage

“I grew up in Portland Oregon and was very fortunate to have extremely supportive parents who fueled my horse passion with 4-H and lessons three days a week. I began showing when I was nine and 50 years later I’m still at it. I’ve made my living training horses since I finished college at Oregon State. Over the years I’ve always combined my dressage and western training so when Cowboy Dressage came along it was the perfect venue for me. I’m now the head trainer for Whispering Winds Farm in Mulino Oregon and have the opportunity to work with a variety of different breeds using the tenets of Cowboy Dressage. What a great life!”

Working Equitation with Caitlin Day Huntress

This clinic will focus on the ease of handling Trial, a gymkhana-type event in which horses must overcome obstacles similar to those likely to appear in the field, such as bridges & gates. For the dressage portion, WE riders are encouraged to sign up for the Dressage Ride-a-test clinics where WE tests will be available to ride.

Caitlin Day Huntress began her horse career over twenty five years ago as working assistant to Joan Bolton, USDF Gold medalist. Through Joan she was able to study with Sandy Howard, US Olympian, Guenter Seidel, US Olympian, and Mary Wanless, international coach and author. After moving to Oregon, Caitlin shifted her focus to Natural Horsemanship. She dedicated herself to the study of Tom Dorrance’s horsemanship and has taken every opportunity to work with the best horsemen and cattlemen she could find. She has worked with Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman, and Joe Wolter, and she continues her study by going to horsemanship and roping clinics. She is the owner of The Huntress Horsemanship Center, a boarding and holistic horsemanship center outside of Portland Oregon.

Caitlin has made Natural Horsemanship and Working Equitation a focus at her Huntress Horsemanship Center. Caitlin is an L Judge with WE United and The Confederation of Working Equitation.

Working Equitation is a perfect blend of the horse disciplines I love. Dressage, obstacles, speed and cows, all done with a focus on the communication with your horse. I’m so excited to share my passion for this sport and to help introduce Working Equitation to the USA.”

Obstacles with Stacey Riggs

Expand your confidence & horsemanship skills by working with obstacles set up on pathways through a wooded area of the property. In this closed environment, and with Stacey’s help, challenge yourself & your horse with exposure to new stimulus, obstacles, & surprises you may encounter out on the “real” trail.

Connection Communication, Rhythm Regulation
with Russell Chamberlain & Stacie Burgess

Do you ever feel your emotions control you in ways you don’t like? Do you ever wish for a better connection with your horse? What about with the people around you? Did you know that making true connections with your horse can actually help you have better relationships with the people around you? It can! Join us in this workshop that will teach you about building willing connections with your horse, and how doing so can change your brain and create positive change in your life.

This session is ground based using a variety of horses. If you would like to have us work with your horse in this group session, or book a private session with your horse or one of ours, please contact Stacie Burgess directly at [email protected]

Please note: Participants get instruction & hands on experience under instructor guidance. Participants have the option to work with their own horses where applicable under clinician supervision & instruction. Auditors observe, take notes & have a question & answer period at the end of the class.

Equine Massage & Body Work with Amanda Leto & TBD

Our equine massage therapists will show you how to work on your horse’s muscles to improve movement & overall comfort & well being. You will learn tips on reading your horse during body work as well as helping you understand what to look for when evaluating if your horse needs to be worked on. Participants will be able to work on their own horse during instruction, or another can be provided if needed. You are also welcome to sign your horse up for a massage & spend your time auditing other classes or socializing! Your horse can be returned to his/her stall to relax until you’re ready for your next ride! This service can be used in lieu of one of your clinics or in addition.
