This program was set up to help reduce the immediate suffering of horses with appropriate veterinary care.

A few guidelines for the use of this fund include:

  • The horse must have a life threatening illness, injury or condition, or one that seriously compromises its quality of life.

  • The veterinarian’s prognosis should indicate a positive outcome (unless it is an emergency euthanasia).

  • Funding authorization may be provided only prior to treatment.

  • Final funding decisions will be based on resources available.

  • Approved funding may be a flat dollar amount or a percentage of the total cost of treatment.

  • It is expected that the Guardian will contribute to the cost of treatment to the extent possible.

  • Participating veterinarians give a discount on services.

These are general guidelines used in making funding decisions. However, every request will be reviewed on a case by case basis, and Sound Equine Options reserves the right to either grant or deny a funding assistance request without further explanation.
